Somnath, on the Arabian Sea, is the first among the twelve Jyotirlingas and one of India's most storied temples — destroyed and rebuilt many times over the centuries, its present shore temple a symbol of endurance, with a stirring evening sound-and-light and aarti.
Dwarka, one of the four Char Dham of India, centres on the towering Dwarkadhish (Jagat Mandir) temple of Krishna, with the island of Bet Dwarka and the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga nearby, and Porbandar (birthplace of Gandhi and, by tradition, Sudama) on the way — a circuit of Jyotirlinga and Krishna devotion along the Saurashtra coast.
